The first denominations were Methodist. The first church established in Atlantic City was by local African American leadership. Bishop J.J. Clinton found Price Memorial AME Zion Church in 1876 and it was located at 15 N. Ohio Ave. Many more churches grew after this because of the growing African-American population. The Northside ministers spearheaded programs that dealt with juvenile delinquency, problems and issues confronting the community and fostered understanding between the races.
